On the occasion of Shaheed Asad Day, Tarique Rahman, Acting Chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), has called on the citizens of Bangladesh to unite and work together to protect the nation’s independence, sovereignty, and strengthen democracy. In a message sent to the media on January 20, he paid tribute to the memory of Shaheed Asad, a prominent figure in the 1969 mass movement.

In his message, Tarique Rahman expressed deep respect for the everlasting memory of Shaheed Asad and prayed for the peace of his soul. He acknowledged Asad’s immense contribution to the democratic movement and his sacrifice in the struggle to free the country from military autocracy.

"On the occasion of Shaheed Asad Day, I pay my deepest respects to the memory of Shaheed Asaduzzaman, who became a symbol of the great 1969 mass movement. I pray for his soul’s peace," said Tarique Rahman.

Tarique Rahman emphasized that Shaheed Asad holds an unforgettable place in the history of Bangladesh's freedom and democratic struggles. As a fearless soldier, he had sacrificed his life on the streets to liberate democracy from the grip of military dictatorship. His martyrdom played a crucial role in accelerating the fall of the autocratic regime and securing the democratic rights of the people of Bangladesh.

He further added that Shaheed Asad’s sacrifice for democracy has inspired many subsequent movements and struggles. Tarique Rahman acknowledged that the courage and dedication of Shaheed Asad continue to motivate people in their ongoing fight for freedom and democracy.

Tarique Rahman concluded his message by stressing the urgent need for the nation to focus on preserving the sovereignty and independence of Bangladesh while strengthening democracy. He called on all citizens to unite and work together toward these crucial goals, emphasizing that the protection of freedom and democracy is the most important task at present.

“I believe the most important task today is to protect the independence and sovereignty of our country, secure the rights of the people, and strengthen our democracy,” Tarique Rahman said.

He called for national unity, urging the people of Bangladesh to come together to work toward these objectives and to honor the sacrifices of those who have fought for the country’s freedom and democratic values.
